After 10 months of renovations, the V&A Waterfront has opened their R180 million extension. The benefits of the extension include an extra 4000m² of retail space to enjoy by having added a third ground floor level. The spectacular atrium-style roof took a total of 8 months to construct, and it is beautiful.
You will now be able to make use of the additional lower level parking area, 6 new escalators and 2 new glass feature lifts. Gaze at the fully custom-designed flooring, with each tile weighing in at 100kg. With 162 people having worked 48 515 man-hours over eight months, it’s time you go and experience the incredible results.
The centre now houses over 450 retail outlets, 80 restaurants/eateries and 9 parking areas. There is still a second phase that is under construction, which will see Woolworths extending over 3 levels in the centre, which should be open in November.
As one of the most visited destinations in Africa, the centre was also recently named the ‘greenest shopping centre’ in the country. Tenants are expected to comply with a ‘green lease’ that will track their energy and water consumption and incentivize recycling. Recycling up to 2.2 tons of discarded coffee cups in one month.
