The South African Government has done away with the remaining COVID-19 regulations. As of the 22nd of June 2022.
Health Minister Joe Phaahla published the latest amendments in the Government Gazette on the 22nd of June 2022 repealing sections 16A, 16B, & 16C of the regulations relating to the Surveillance and the Control of Notifiable Medical Conditions, made in terms of sections 90(1)(j), (k), and (w) of the National Health Act, 2003 (Act 61 of 2003).
The three sets of regulations, now scrapped entirely mean that the following changes will apply with immediate effect:
Safety Protocols
It is not compulsory to wear a face mask in any public-use indoor space or when on public transport.
Gatherings
The regulation of gatherings to contain the spread of Covid-19", which limited any gathering of more than 100 people to 50% of maximum venue capacity if everyone was vaccinated, or to an absolute maximum of 1,000 people indoors or 2,000 people outdoors if vaccination status was not checked will no longer apply.
International Travel
Travellers passing through South Africa’s borders no longer require proof of vaccination status, test results or proof of recovery from Covid-19. It remains essential to check the entry requirements of the country you wish to travel to, inclusive of any transits, stop overs as well as the end destination.
