The Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA) has introduced a new security fee on all domestic and international flights in the country. Starting October 1, air travellers will pay an additional TZS5 000 (R32+-) for domestic flights and R73 for international flights on their ticket prices.
The new fee is said to be used for the improvement of airport security.
According to The Citizen, Laurence Paul, Tanzania Air Operators Association (TAOA) Executive Secretary, has raised concerns about the implementation time, “Some airlines had already sold tickets for future travel, and operators will have to cover the additional costs,” said Paul. He noted that the fee had been discussed and agreed upon at stakeholder meetings, however, the TAOA remains concerned about the turnaround time.
